Three football-playing brothers: Stick together despite WSU, USU rivalry

This time next fall, three Higgins brothers from the island of Hawaii will have one game in the Top of Utah circled on their calendar: Weber State at Utah State.

McBride, Higgins lead new-look Wildcats

OGDEN -- After unprecedented back-to-back trips to the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs, Weber State is looking to stretch a double into a triple.

To reach the FCS playoffs for a third straight year, coach Ron McBride's young Wildcats have to step up to own the tradition, as well as overcome a Big Sky Conference schedule bookended by tough road games at Boston College and Texas Tech. Weber State opens the season Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at BC's Alumni Stadium in Chestnut Hill, Mass.

McBride respects, but not intimidated by Boston College

Boston College is projected to finish third in the ACC Atlantic Division under second-year coach Frank Spaziani and trailed USC by just four points in the fourth quarter in the Emerald Bowl last season before losing 24-13.

Boston on the brain : Wildcats begin implementing B.C. schemes

OGDEN -- With a week to go before flying east to Boston for the season opener, Weber State continues sorting out position battles while getting in game-prep mode.

The Wildcats began implementing their Boston College-specific game plans Wednesday in the broiling heat of a 90-plus degree afternoon at the practice field.

OGDEN -- On back-to-school night at Horace Mann Elementary, about 150 neighbors gathered at a nearby park to address concerns about a convenience store, next to the school, that sells "spice," a substance that is legal to buy and possess, but that creates a marijuana-like high if smoked.
